The Duchess Georgiana Room...
...return to an age of elegance... ...surrounded by splendid antiques...
|
Decoration Return
to an age of elegance in the Duchess Georgiana Room, surrounded by
splendid antiques recreating the attention to detail and luxury of a
bygone era. Inspiration
The Duchess Georgiana room is named after Lady Georgiana Spencer (1757 - 1806), who was the fashion icon of her day; pretty, intelligent and confident. In 1774 she married the most eligible bachelor in England, the fifth Duke of Devonshire, for whom Buxton's Victorian Guest House was originally built. She was also an active political campaigner in an age when women's suffrage was still over a century away. Among her descendants are the present Duke of Devonshire (via her granddaughter). Another well-known woman from the same family as Georgiana was Diana, Princess of Wales (born Lady Diana Spencer), who was descended from Georgiana's brother, the 2nd Earl Spencer. Information The Duchess Georgiana Room is on the first floor of the guest house, accessed by two short flights of stairs. The room has a double bed, and an ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle. A hair-dryer, colour television, tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits are all provided in the room, and fresh milk, ironing board and iron are available on request.
